Experience
From volunteering as a greeter at special events, working the floor as a server in crowds of over 2,500 attendees, to envisioning and executing recreational events from scratch, I have gained valuable insights in many aspects of event planning.
Programming
My experience with programming began as an Event Support Coordinator with Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) Recreation where I blossomed into a dependable Senior Student Active Living Coordinator after spending three years with the department. During this time, I took initiative in programming bringing fresh and innovative ideas to the table that had not been done in the past at the CBRM. Creating 'CBRM Engage'', a program specifically targeting seniors with varying abilities in nursing homes. Also creating 'CBRM En Vert', a sustainability program that sought to educate community members on the importance of revitalizing the community we live in and being more intentional about our behaviours toward the environment.
Sponsorships
Throughout my time as a recreation coordinator, I developed fundraising skills in order to propel programming success. I took advantage of the opportunity to give a pitch to Cape Breton University Alumni, securing funding towards the 'CBRM Engage' recreation program. I also drafted and distributed over 20 donation requests resulting in 10 sponsors for various events.
Evaluation
While developing events and introducing them to the community, I was able to consult with co-workers, implement feedback, and pivot programming as necessary to better fit the needs of the community and better suit the goals of programming. I even had the chance to learn how to use Eventbrite to promote the events and register data on participants to forecast event success.
